Dhurandhar sends you looking for a place that is not on any map you can use. The film is set in Lyari, Karachi. Almost none of it was shot there. What you are actually watching is Amritsar, a village outside Ludhiana, two or three corners of Mumbai, the Leh to Kargil highway, and a set built in Thailand.

This is the full list, with what is real, what was built, and what you can walk into yourself. It is written for a trip in the next six to ten weeks. Bangkok is in its best season from November. Amritsar is comfortable by then. Ladakh is not, and we say so below rather than sell you a winter road trip that does not exist.

Where was Dhurandhar shot, in one answer

Principal photography for Dhurandhar and its second part, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, ran back to back from July 2024 to October 2025. The unit worked across Thailand, Punjab, Mumbai, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. No part of the film was shot in Pakistan, so if you searched for Lyari travel, stop there.

Here is the whole shoot in one table.

Locations reported by the production and by trade coverage through the 2024 to 2025 shoot.

Amritsar: the Golden Temple, Lal Kothi and the border

Amritsar carries the Punjab half of the film. The unit shot in and around Harmandir Sahib, and used Lal Kothi, a red brick heritage house of roughly 20,000 sq ft, as the family mansion. Lal Kothi is private property. You can see it from the road, you cannot tour it, and nobody there is running a film walk.

The Golden Temple itself needs no ticket and no plan. It is open through the night, the langar runs round the clock and feeds well over a lakh people a day, and the best hour is between 4 and 6 in the morning when the crowd thins. Cover your head, leave your shoes at the counter, no shorts.

Jallianwala Bagh is a five minute walk from the temple and free to enter. The Partition Museum in the old Town Hall is ticketed and worth an hour, particularly if the film sent you here. Attari is 28 km west, where the retreat ceremony happens every evening. Entry is free, seating is first come, and the start time moves with the season, so confirm it the morning of. Our 3 night Amritsar solo trip starts from Rs 8,289 per person as of September 2026.

Khera village near Ludhiana, and the Punjab in between

The rural stretches were shot at Khera, a village in Ludhiana district, which the art team dressed with mud walls and narrowed lanes so it would read as rural Pakistan rather than Punjab. Other units worked in Patiala and Chandigarh. There is no set left standing and no marker.

What is there is ordinary village Punjab: brick houses, a gurdwara, tractors on the link road, fields that turn green in November and gold by April. That is the point worth carrying with you. The film borrowed the texture of one side of the border to play the other.

Treat it as a drive, not a destination. Amritsar to Ludhiana is about 140 km on NH44, roughly two and a half to three hours. Anyone building a Punjab loop can string Amritsar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh together in four days and keep the driving under three hours a day. If you want the film angle handled for you, that is what our filmy getaways desk does.

  1. Day 1 - Amritsar: the temple, twice

Land or arrive by train, drop bags near Heritage Street. Golden Temple in the evening, langar for dinner, then back again before sunrise if you can manage it. Nothing here needs a ticket.

  2. Day 2 - Amritsar: Jallianwala Bagh, Partition Museum, Attari

Morning on foot for Jallianwala Bagh and the Partition Museum, both minutes from the temple. Leave for Attari by early afternoon, since the 28 km run and the queue both take longer than you expect. Kulcha at Kulcha Land on the way back.

  3. Day 3 - Ludhiana side trip and the Punjab drive

Drive NH44 towards Ludhiana, about 140 km, for the village country around Khera. Return to Amritsar the same evening, or carry on to Chandigarh and fly out from there.

Mumbai did most of the Karachi work

The Lyari street scenes that feel most like Pakistan were largely shot in Ballard Estate, the Edwardian and art deco precinct behind the docks in south Mumbai. Stone facades, arcaded ground floors, wide empty Sunday streets. Walk it from CSMT in about 10 minutes and look for the Karfule petrol pump, a working 1930s pump that photographs exactly like the film.

The rest of the Mumbai schedule was interior and controlled: Filmistan Studios in Goregaon for set pieces, Madh Island for the outdoor stretch, the old Golden Tobacco factory in Vile Parle, and the Dombivli to Mankoli bridge for road sequences. The studios and the factory are private, so do not plan around them. Madh Island you can reach on the Versova ferry in a few minutes, and it is a genuinely good half day. A film led city day works best on a Sunday morning, when Ballard Estate is empty.

Leh and Ladakh: Gurdwara Pathar Sahib

The unit reached Ladakh in August 2025 and worked at Pathar Sahib near Leh, using the empty brown scale of the place for the film's most isolated stretch. The schedule was famously interrupted when about 120 crew members were hospitalised after food poisoning on 17 August 2025.

Gurdwara Pathar Sahib sits roughly 25 km from Leh on the Leh to Kargil highway at around 12,000 ft, maintained by the Indian Army. There is no ticket, tea and langar are served, and almost every Leh to Magnetic Hill to Sangam day trip stops here anyway. You do not need to plan a separate trip for it.

What you do need to plan is the season. Our 7 night Ladakh group trip covering Leh, Nubra, Turtuk and Pangong starts from Rs 18,330 per person as of September 2026, and it runs in the summer window, not in November.

Bangkok: where the Lyari set actually stood

The biggest reveal of the whole shoot is that Lyari was built from scratch in Thailand, with the unit based out of Bangkok. Production designer Saini S Johray has said the film needed a six acre set, which no studio floor in Mumbai could hold, and that the July rains made building it outdoors in India impossible. Bangkok solved both problems at once.

So they built a neighbourhood. Lanes, shopfronts, overhead wiring, laundry lines, the lot, put up by a crew of more than 500 Indian and Thai workers in about 20 days. Bangkok gave the team dense low rise reference, a working crew base and room to shoot heavy action for weeks without shutting down a real city.

The set is not a tourist site. It was a private build on a private plot, it is not open, and no operator in Bangkok can take you inside it. What you can do is walk the streets that gave the designers their reference. Sampeng Lane and Yaowarat in Chinatown, the old metal workshops of Talat Noi, and Khlong Toei market at 6 in the morning are the closest you get to what is on screen, and all three are free. Our 7 night Bangkok and Phuket trip starts from Rs 88,014 per person as of September 2026 and gives you four nights in the city.

What a Thailand or Amritsar trip actually costs

November to February is the dry, cooler half of the Bangkok year, which is exactly why the crew and every Indian traveller show up then. Indians currently get visa free entry to Thailand for short stays, and every arrival has to file the digital arrival card online before landing, so check both on the Thai immigration site the week you book.

These are from prices on trips our team has already built and released, read in September 2026. They move with your dates, your hotel tier and how late you book flights.

From prices per person, read from our released trips in September 2026. Only the Pattaya and Bangkok and the Bangkok and Phuket routes include Bangkok itself. Ladakh runs in the summer window only.

Dhurandhar locations: what people actually ask

Where was Dhurandhar shot?

Across four regions. Amritsar and Khera village near Ludhiana in Punjab, several Mumbai locations including Ballard Estate, Filmistan Studios and Madh Island, Pathar Sahib and the country around Leh in Ladakh, and a purpose built Lyari set in Thailand with the unit based in Bangkok. Filming for both parts ran back to back from July 2024 to October 2025.

Was any of Dhurandhar shot in Pakistan?

No. The film is set in Lyari, Karachi, but nothing was filmed in Pakistan. The Lyari streets were built as a set in Thailand, and the older Karachi style blocks you see were shot in Ballard Estate in south Mumbai. That is why the architecture reads as colonial dockland rather than modern Karachi.

Why was the Lyari set built in Thailand and not in India?

Scale and weather. Production designer Saini S Johray has said the film needed roughly six acres of standing set, more than any studio floor in Mumbai could hold, and that the July rain ruled out building it in the open in India. Bangkok offered the space, a crew base and clear weeks to shoot action. Over 500 Indian and Thai workers put it up in about 20 days.

Dhurandhar ki shooting kahan hui hai?

Sabse zyada shooting Punjab, Mumbai, Ladakh aur Thailand mein hui. Amritsar mein Golden Temple ke aas paas aur Lal Kothi, Ludhiana ke paas Khera village, Mumbai mein Ballard Estate, Filmistan aur Madh Island, Leh ke paas Pathar Sahib, aur Lyari ka pura chhe acre ka set Thailand mein banaya gaya tha. Pakistan mein kuch bhi shoot nahi hua.

Can you visit the Dhurandhar sets?

The sets, no. The locations, mostly yes. The Thailand build was private and is not open, Filmistan Studios is a working studio, and Lal Kothi in Amritsar is a private house you can only see from outside. The Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Attari, Ballard Estate, Madh Island and Gurdwara Pathar Sahib are all open to anyone, and all except the Partition Museum are free.

Which Dhurandhar location is the easiest trip from India?

Amritsar. Direct flights and trains from every metro, three nights is enough, and the two headline locations sit within a few hundred metres of each other. Bangkok is the next easiest, with short flights, visa free entry for Indians on current rules and a five to six night trip that also gives you a beach. Ladakh needs the most planning and the right months.

When should I go to each location?

Amritsar is comfortable from late October to March, and cold but clear in December and January. Bangkok is at its best from November to February, dry and around 26 to 32 degrees. Mumbai is pleasant from November to February. Ladakh is realistically May to September, when the Nubra and Pangong roads are reliably open.

How much does a Dhurandhar inspired trip cost?

As of September 2026, our released Amritsar trips start from Rs 8,289 per person for three nights solo and Rs 28,177 for a three night couple trip. Thailand starts from Rs 65,931 per person for five nights across Pattaya and Bangkok, and Rs 88,014 for seven nights across Bangkok and Phuket. Ladakh starts from Rs 18,330 for seven nights in the summer season.
