The Mecca Region, also known as Makkah Al-Mukarramah, is one of the 13 administrative regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Located in the western part of the country, it spans an area of 164,000 square kilometers and boasts a population of over 8 million people. The region is named after its capital city, Mecca, which is considered the holiest city in Islam and the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad. The region is bordered by the Red Sea to the west, Medina Region to the north, Al-Baha Region to the south, and Riyadh Region to the east. Geographically, the Mecca Region features a diverse landscape that includes coastal plains, mountain ranges, and deserts. The coastal plains are fertile and rich in marine life, while the mountain ranges, such as the Al-Sarawat range, are characterized by their towering peaks and rugged terrain. The region's climate varies from hot and humid along the coast to arid and dry in the inland areas. The Mecca Region is home to several significant landmarks, with the most famous being the Masjid al-Haram, or the Grand Mosque, in Mecca.
