A little about Jammu
Jammu is the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir and is situated in the Shivalik Range, overlooking the northern plains. While on his hunting trip in 14th Century BC, Raja Jamboo Lochan saw a very unusual site at the banks of the Tawi River.
He saw a goat and a lion drinking water at the same place and then going there on ways. The King was so amazed seeing this and asked about this to his ministers, who explained that this behavior of the animals is because of the soil, which is so virtuous that no living creature bore any animosity against another.
The King was so struck with this view that he decided to build his capital on this land and names it Jambupura. The city of Jambupura was situated on the right bank of the Tawi River and overlooked Raja Jamboo's brother Bahu's Fort. The city became known as Jambu- Nagar and the name was later changed to Jammu.
