Kargil is at the junction of the famous silk route and LOC with the remittances of the 1999 war. It is the base station for adventure activities such as trekking, rafting, and camping in the valleys. The tourists swarm from June to September but the most famous chadar trek at Zanskar valley is done during Jan and Feb. A day tour of the city will take you to the architectural view of monasteries, and stories at the war memorials, a trail to the green valleys and mystic mountains. On an evening spur at the street hauls and restaurants, to try out Indian, Chinese, and Continental along with traditional dishes such as Momo, Gur Cha, Tapu, and Thugpka. The vegetation around the valleys would blossom in June with fresh apricots, apples, barley, and some dry nuts. Tourists shop at these local bazaars for organic fruits, Kesar, and nuts.
